Until the 1965 release of the film THE IPCRESS FILE, starring MICHAEL CAINE, the impatient, bespectacled protagonist of this series of spy novels by British author LEN DEIGHTON did not have a name .  It was left to MICHAEL CAINE to dub him "HARRY" as the dullest first name he'd ever heard, and the producer decided that "PALMER" was also equally dull.  And so the series of five films featuring actor MICHAEL CAINE as the British secret agent, "HARRY PALMER" was dubbed -- and the series of novels by LEN DEIGHTON became the "HARRY PALMER" series, of which this is the seventh.
