FOR SALE: Upgraded Sophos XG 135 Rev 2 eight-port Gigabit router/firewall running pfSense.

With stock firmware, the device is technically in support until 2025, but Sophos actively encourages their customers to upgrade to a newer device. To decouple device from the manufacturer's software and services, we have installed and configured pfSense, an open-source operating system for network equipment.

To test the device and make port functions consistent with on-device labeling, we made a few changes to the initial pfSense configuration. A detailed configuration note will be provided to the buyer. Alternatively, the buyer could simply reset the software to its initial state.

The device runs on an Intel Atom C2558 processor (quad-core, 2.4 GHz). The processor supports AES-NI crypto and QAT crypto. In its stock form, the device had 6 GB of RAM and a 64 GB Transcend SSD, which we upgraded to 8 GB and a 128 GB Samsung SSD. Networking (eight Gigabit ports) is handled by Intel network interface cards (four Intel i354 and four Intel i211).

The device is implemented in a desktop form factor. The case is all metal and exceptionally rigid. Sophos made rack mounting kits for it, so the device could be rack-mounted if necessary.

The device is actively cooled. Under normal operating conditions, the fan is whisper-quiet.

The device is in excellent physical condition (please review the photos). A power supply unit with a threaded coupling (no more accidental unplugging!) is included.
