Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1st generation (1950's era) Electro Voice 664 dynamic cardioid microphone. Often referred to as "The Buchanan Hammer" salesman would demonstrate it's toughness and reliability by pounding nails into a piece wood with the mic then hooking it up to show that it would still work without issue. This microphone was not used as a hammer...obviously and shows just lite wear from use over the decades. It comes with a period 1950's Atlas DS-5 model stand in which to display.

It should be noted right away that though the mic is 100% complete it has been tested and the element is dead. This mic should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.

Pic # 3 shows an old E.V data sheet with all the basic characteristics of this mic. You can always make a copy of this to keep with the mic.

The 664 was a revolutionary, high quality studio mic being tough, reliable, great sounding and having a uni-directional pattern only picking up what was directly in front of the microphone cancelling out all background noise. It was the standard for all other mics of it's era and sounds as good as most quality mics built today if the 664 is in good working order. Again, this is a non-working mic.

Buyers beware...these chromed bodies DO NOT polish out. If there is pitting, scratches or engravings they do not come out. Don't be fooled thinking they will look like new once the damage is done as many sellers are claiming.

Again, the polished chrome body on this 664 shows very lite wear in the form of a few scuff marks, tiny scratches and very tiny pitting. The 664 label looks very nice with lite chrome loss exposing the brass material beneath. The front screen has just zero deformation, odors or tarnish. The on / off switch works perfect as well.

The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and it's adjustable via side screw. The on / off switch was cleaned and works just as it should and slides smoothly. The threading for the cable and stand are perfect...nothing stripped or fractured.

 I would rate this mic a very conservative 7 + physically speaking on a scale of 1 - 10.

There is a beautiful vintage Atlas DS-5 model cast iron stand that is included that makes a very stable platform for this top heavy microphone. It shows just very lite wear on the original paint base and the chrome riser looks very nice. It has all 3 rubber pads on the bottom and shows almost no rust stains on the bottom of the base.

The mic with stand is appx 6 inches wide X 13 inches tall if raised completely upright.

A very cool package deal all around and will draw attention just about anywhere it's displayed.

The 664 will screw onto any desk or floor stand you choose but again, the DS-5 model is provided.

As with all my other vintage microphones...
