This very nice, and rare, HO gauge locomotive set by Rivarossi is 6241 an EMD E8 diesel loco set in Santa Fe livery. It consists of two locomotive, one powered and one dummy.

The EMD E8 is a 2,250-horsepower (1,678 kW), A1A-A1A passenger-train locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of La Grange, Illinois. A total of 450 cab versions, or E8As, were built from August 1949 to January 1954, 447 for the U.S. and 3 for Canada. 46 E8Bs were built from December 1949 to January 1954, all for the U.S.

After passenger trains were canceled on the Erie Lackawanna in 1970 (excluding their commuter service, which the Metropolitan Transportation Authority subsidized in 1973), the E8s were re-geared for freight and were very reliable for the EL. These units were on freight trains until the early years of Consolidated Railroad Corporation ("Conrail"). Amtrak used E8s until the late 70s.

A number survive in preservation.

The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, it is fully tested and runs with working lights. A complete external visual inspection has shown the overall condition is good but could do with a good clean. It comes complete with its box. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition.

Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.

Do please have a look at my other listings, I typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items.

Note: I do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
