The purpose of this late 1786 Georgia issue was for loans on real estate mortgage securities. The conversion rate for these bills was 4s8d per dollar. Printed by John Smith in Augusta on paper imported from the Netherlands. A large and beautiful vignette of the 1777 Georgia Constitution and the motto “PRO BONO PUBLICO” (For the public good) can be seen on the left side. The right boarder states “To Counterfeit is DEATH”. Gorgeous example with crisp light paper and pleasing ink. Previously a part of the prestigious Eric P. Newman Collection.
