This is a fine Victoria University(Liverpool) related silver-plated armorial crest on oak board.

Victoria University was set up in the 1880s and linked up Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds University but the collaboration was relatively short-lived as each of them decided to go their own way.

This crest is the precursor to Liverpool University although the current crest is virtually identical.

This armorial is silver plate on copper and dates from the early 20th century. My pictures don't do it justice. The plate has worn away in parts and looks like gold and silver.

Crests would work well in any decorative setting if you like to mix old and new. They add instant wall interest..

The last one on the market sold for well into three figures so here's a very rare chance to get add one to your collection.

Another example of the Liver Bird crest is:

I think the Liver birds are sure to be of interest to all Heraldry collectors but particularly those with Liverpool University connections.

The board measures 43cms x 33cms and it was made in 1906 by Fisher and Ludlow Ltd of Birmingham (there is a small info disk on the back of the board).

*** I did have one for Manchester University but that was recently sold.
