This illustrious & important Cartier Tank Americaine ‘Phase De Lune’ is certainly a testament that they’ve achieved that goal. The Tank revolutionised watchmaking upon its release in 1917 and it has been so successful that the rectangular shape is now synonymous with the Maison Cartier. In 1989 the Americaine was born, it features a subtly curved case which ergonomically sits on the wrist. Wearing much larger than the width suggests, it actually spans the width of the wrist comfortably and pays tribute to its inspiration, the Tank Cintree.
This example is crafted in solid 18ct yellow gold, when being worn it is truly a statement piece. The dial is a beautifully subtle cream with classic Cartier Roman Numeral hour markers, and interestingly a third ‘calendar’ hand which relays the date to the wearer. Hidden within the dial itself is the ‘secret signature’ on the 10 O’Clock numeral, blued sword style hour/minute hands that match the blue cabochon encrusted into the winding crown. At the beating heart of this piece is a Cartier quartz movement which has just been fully serviced by ‘La Maison’ and is of course working perfectly, and under warranty for the buyers peace of mind. This Tank is fastened to the wrist with a brand new calf leather strap in black, with subtle stitching.
