Craig Bergland was born on Friday the 13th of May, 1949. He moved to Reno, Nevada at the age of 5 from southern California.

Craig attended Reno's public school system until 11th grade. He graduated High School in Palm Springs, California in 1967. Craig has attended college at the College of the Desert, and University of Nevada, Reno. He participated in the Experimental College at UNR in the early 1970's, and also attended Morrison College in Reno while concurrently teaching post-secondary education there.

Craig did not serve in the military. His eyesight is too poor and they told him to go home, after volunteering during the Vietnam War.

Politics & Activism

1960's - involved in publishing Nevada's 1st underground newspaper, Love.

1971 - participated in 2nd Annual Earth Day at College of the Desert. Member of Earth Club. Helped build and carry black coffin 16 miles from Palm Springs to our college, filling it with trash.

1970's - Published the Last Conspiracy, an environmental underground paper.

Late 1970's / Early 1980's - involved in events at Nevada Test Site.

Early 1980's - worked for Greenpeace at event at Nevada Test Site. Took official tour of the site -- fascinating.

Mid 1980's - member of the Advocates for Future Generations in Reno, a peace organization.

Local media organizer for the Ground Zero Week in Reno, a week-long teaching event about nuclear war.

Published the Reno Free Press, the first underground paper available in print, on disk, and via local pre-internet Bulletin Board systems.

1998 - filed for Mayor of Reno. Withdrew early from the race in favor of supporting another candidate who I thought would make a better mayor.

1999 - Attended Burning Man for the first time.

2000 - Left Nevada for Mississippi to work on a casino riverboat, returning to Reno in 2001.

2005 - Joined Green Party of Nevada.

2006 - Became new grandfather! Katherine Elizabeth Bergland born April 13, 2006.

2006 - Filed for Gubernatorial race of Nevada.
