This vintage octagon glass jar is the perfect addition to any collector's display. With a beautiful multi-color design and a sturdy wooden lid, it can hold cookies, crackers, or any other small items you'd like to store. The jar is an original piece and would make a great conversation starter in any kitchen or living room. The brand is Lance, and the theme is bakery and baking.

It has a wooden lid made of hardwood, possibly maple, which appears to have been hand turned on a lathe after the jar was produced. Others of these I have seen have a glass lid, and since these were typically store displays and frequently opened, my guess is that someone dropped the lid and broke it way back when, and a new heavy wooden lid was made as a replacement. This gives the jar a LOT of character.

The glass itself and the lid are both very heavy duty. At its widest, the jar is about 7.5"  X 9", it is about 10.5" high without the lid, and 11.5" high with the lid on it. The glass jar alone weighs 5lb, 3oz, and the lid weighs 1 lb.

There are no chips, or cracks in the glass that I can see, but it looks as though the printing which says "from the house of Lance" has faded quite a bit over time, possibly it was cleaned in a dishwasher which led to this.

I got this item from an estate sale at a farmhouse in Pennsylvania,  so there is definitely some interesting history here.
