This very nice, and rare, 3-rail AC HO gauge locomotive by Marklin is 3149 a SNCB Series 80 diesel loco in green livery. It has running number 8058.

The 80 series is a series of diesel shunting locomotives from SNCB . It derives from the V60 locomotives of the Deutsche Bundesbahn.

After the Second World War SNCB mostly had steam locomotives that had survived the conflict. Unlike the First World War, little material was returned by the occupier as war damage. Belgium did retain three V36 type diesel shunters. The design was effective and it was decided to stick with German production and base a new shunting loco on the most recent model, the V60 (future BR260).

Two Belgian manufacturers are involved: Brugeoise and Nivelles (which has since been acquired by the Canadian group Bombardier Transport ), and Ateliers Belges Réunis . The first versions were delivered in 1960.

At the end of the 1990s, the SNCB had to plan the replacement of numerous series of locomotives delivered between 1955 and 1965. The electrification of most lines, and the significant reduction in traffic, was the motivation. A lengthy public procurement process awarded Siemens the delivery of the 77 series. Their delivery in the early 2000s led to the retirement of the 80 series in 2002. They were then parked on a track in the Schaerbeek workshop.

A number remain in preservation

The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, We are unable to test it as we do not have a three rail AC test rig or track, so we have not tested it but can see no reason why it would not run. It is sold in untested condition, this means that it may not run, and as such it is not being sold in running condition. However a complete external visual inspection has shown no reason why this loco would not run and the overall condition is very good. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition.

Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.

Do please have a look at my other listings, I typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items.

Note: I do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
