- I have not researched the differences in the one child’s name variance.
- Auguste Douart, France, (1789-1861), one of the most popular silhouette
artists of the 19th century. Worked (1825-1845ish, continuing till
1861) in England, Scotland and United States specializing in silhouette
portraits. Auguste traveled to the USA in 1839-1849 visiting various cities
(Mississippi in 1843-44 and Natchez). His work resides in many fine
collections, galleries and museums.
- Auguste did keep a copy of his silhouettes finished and kept them in his
personal scrapbooks. In 1845, traveling back to France and shipwrecked in Vazon
Bay, he lost all but twelve of his scrapbooks which he gave to a family member.
These were forgotten until coming to light in 1912 when the scrapbooks with
12,000 silhouettes were purchased.
It appears this was photographed in the mid
1900s from these remaining scrapbooks?
