3" Floppy Disk Cleaner

Works on any 3" floppy disks - Sinclair ZX Spectrum +3, Amstrad CPC664, Amstrad CPC6128, Amstrad PCW 8526/8512/9512, etc, so long as they look the same as the disk in the pictures.

Do you have floppy disks that will no longer work?

If you do then this could help.

Simply pop your 3" floppy into the cradle and it will hold back the spring loaded flap. This will allow easy access to the actual disk part of the floppy on both sides of it. Put the turner into the centre hole on the disk to allow you to turn the inner disk.

Use a cleaning fluid, I use a small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol on a cotton bud or a lint free cloth, lightly place the cleaning solution on the disk surface and turn the turning knob to clean the surface fully. Repeat this until the entire surface of the inner disk has been cleaned on both sides. Once I have cleaned the disk I spin around again to ensure all the IPA has evaporated prior to re-testing the disk.

You can get the cleaning fluid on eBay cheaply or you may already have it.

Whilst this is not guaranteed to resolve the issue with your disk I have successfully managed to clean many 3.5" floppy disks that were giving read errors due to dirt / surface mould.

Please note though that if your floppy disk is physically damaged it will not help, but it is better to make sure that it does not just require cleaning before throwing it away.
