This is an American Optical microtome knife kit.  The kit consists of the microtome knife, the handle for the knife, and the special knife back for hand sharpening.  The box is also included.  The box shows signs of wear.

This knife has been precision-sharpened on an American Optical Model 935 dedicated microtome knife sharpening machine, and the blade is extremely sharp ("scary sharp!") and ready to use for precision micro-sectioning and microscope slide preparation.  Examine the photos carefully and you can actually see the double bevel of the blade.  This double bevel ensures the sharpest possible microtome blade, allowing the microscopist or histologist to prepare beautifully thin sections for prepared microscope slides.

Some of the photos show the knife edge as viewed under an inspection microscope.  The photos, un-retouched, show the actual knife edge of this microtome blade.  Again, please exercise caution when handling this blade.  It is sharp!
