An antique brass door knocker with maker’s mark ‘HP’ stamped on the back of the knocker part. Nicely detailed with teeth and mane. It is rare to find a maker's mark on antique brass door knockers; I have researched maker's marks and have not been able to identify it. There are three fixing holes. Full length, including the ‘ring’ knocker it measures 11cm; the lion’s face measures 8.2 x 7.3cm at the widest point. Condition - antique with wear, patina, verdigris and residual metal polish. Some play in the ring through the lion’s mouth from years of use. Please view all the photographs as they form an importnat part of the description. Thank you for viewing my listing.

Lions and lion's heads were a popular feature in Georgian architecture. Signifying fortitude, security, dignity and authority they have been depicted in many forms as a 'symbol' of Great Britain. Many Georgian houses can still be seen today with a lion's head door knocker.
