Background and
reviews (European version only)
This model was awarded Sports car of the year in 1988
This European model was made specifically to compete in competition
rallies (for group N and group A rallies), although this has only ever
been used as a road car.
Andrew Frankel review said, it is the most fun front wheel drive car
he has ever driven.
Chris Harris said, it is every bit as special to drive as his RS
Porsche, and he has bought a European version himself.
This cars details
Very good condition throughout being an original car to start with,
never rallied like most have been and then a £4k restoration to make it
how it is today.
12 months MOT just completed with no advisories at all.
Previous years MOT provided, again showing no advisories.
Only done 78 miles in the last year (just stored as an appreciating
classic car).
Small fire in the engine bay, which the previous owners claimed on his
insurance (classed as minor cosmetic damage) All the parts have been
replaced by my classic car restorer, (Montescort) with the original parts sourced from
Belgium.
Roll and Road tune up at the previous MOT, 78 miles ago.
Only 35 are registered in the UK, most have been used for rallies, so
it is estimated that there are only about 15 in existence in the UK in original
condition.
Only 2 previous UK owners.
Log book in my name and also the previous owners log book is present.
The mileage is only 41,907 which is incredibly low and unheard of (67,444
kilometers).
Receipt for the £4,000 restoration and the car has not been used since
the restoration was completed.
Restoration brief summary, discs, calipers, wiring harness, electrics, ignition unit, strip and clean twin carbs, air filter, renew clutch and throttle cables, roll and road tune etc.
The car has only done 932 miles in total, over the last 5 years, so
186 miles a year just to keep things ticking over.
Original and rare left hand drive European Homologation Special 205 Rallye
Summary
Please do not confuse this car with the UK version, the European
Rallye is a bona fide homologation special, built for N and A rallying.
The car is a very lightweight, powerful, hot hatch with amazing handling, a raw intense drive.
The 205 left hand drive Rallye was never offered to the UK market,
hence being so rare today.
These are in very high demand and in my opinion will go similar to the
Ford Escorts, with prices increasing every year.
I have only seen 1 of these (Genuine European original car) for sale
in the UK in the last 3 years.
The plan was to
sit on this car for 5 years or so and watch it increase in value but I need to
sell it now to fund the 3 classic car projects that I have in progress.
Straight cash sale therefore preferred but I may take a car in part exchange,
as long as it is worth no more than £7.5k because I need about £10k to finish
my projects.
If you look at
the European classic car websites, very good examples similar to this are
advertised between £20k to £25k
If I had the
time, I would advertise in Europe at about £22k where these are extremely popular and
appreciated the most but I don’t have the time to liaise with the European buyers or organise exporting etc. so selling in the UK for £17.5k
Definitely one
for the serious collector or for someone who wants to go to classic car shows,
having the only 205 Rallye homologation special.
People advertise
their classic cars and say they are very rare but you can still find 20 plus of
them for sale. If you search the UK for one of these, in original condition,
very low mileage, homologation special, left hand drive, it will most likely be
none or perhaps 1 every now and again if you are lucky.
Viewings are
preferred to be 1 person, but up to 2 people when arranged.
Honest person,
selling an honest car, so please no time wasters or test pilots.
I am available by
phone, e-mail or WhatsApp most of the time during the day as I work from my own
office.
Note - Now added some underneath photos taken at the MOT last week
