For those who LOVE pyrex .... a brand developed by Corning Glass (est 1851) in 1912 ...  PYREX has been produced in 3 Major Categories: CLEAR (1915 -); Flameware (1936-79); Coloured (Clear and Milk Glass) (1947-) ...

Offered here is a pyrex, Crystal-Clear, Amethyst-Purple Tinted, Large-Size Lasagna Baking Dish - in MOST-EXCELLENT - gently-used condition - likely from the 1990's into the 2000's.

All surfaces are GLEAMING - super-HIGHLY-glossy, shiny, crystal-clear, and clean; NO obvious cracks, chips, nor flea bites; no hazing, nor stains. There are some fine rubs, scratches and incidental contact marks; some rub-wear to the exterior surfaces' base seat rim; a couple small rub patches on the interior base of the dish into the glass; a few small and longer scratches into the glass mainly on exterior surfaces - likely from handling, storage, and stacking.

Although the glass in Photos may appear blue – it is purple.

Reverse-embossed on the base is the manufacturer's information - "233; MADE IN U.S.A.; 23; 0 .; pyrex "circled R"; 3 QT - 2.8L; MICROWAVE SAFE; NO BROILER; NO STOVETOP".

SOME INTERESTING INFORMATION –

pyrex - colours -

In the 1990's and into the 2000's, PYREX released many of their products in a variety of colours – cobalt, amethyst, cranberry, spring-green, peacock-blue, smoke-gray and a blush series of pink, green and blue as well.

Lower case “pyrex" -

pyrex - Corning Inc Pyrex was trademarked as PYREX in 1908. It was made of borosilicate glass. World Kitchen LLC “spun-off” of Corning in 1998 and licensed the Pyrex brand in lower case "pyrex". THIS Pyrex was made of less-costly soda-lime glass. So, currently, Pyrex made in the US (N America) is made of soda-lime glass but elsewhere it is made of the costlier borosilicate glass.

Oblong Utility Dishes -

Oblong Utility dishes were available over the years in a variety of sizes – MPN-230 Extra-Small (1-QT); MPN-231 Small (1 1/2 QT); MPN-232 Medium (2 QT); MPN-233 Large (3 QT); MPN-234 Extra-Large (4 QT). Each specific item was available for different lengths of time – in response to customer needs. Their dimensions varied a little as handles were introduced and molds changed.

233 – Large – 3 QT – appeared in 1950 with full-width handles, sharp interior corners - available ~ – to the late 1980’s + (scooped handles, rounded corners).

A coupe of these oblong baking dishes appeared with the MPN having an N added - 232-N, 233-N perhaps more. There is a slight variation to the measurements between the 233 and 233-N baking dish.

Handles -

Many standard utility dishes had NO handles until ~1936.

The first handles were tab-type handles – slightly upturned and rounded – 1936.

The next style was released in 1940-47 – where the handles were flat tab-handles. Embossed "U.S. PAT OFF" - is indicative of earlier run pieces.

Sculptured handles arrived in 1947 - for much bakeware - not these oblong casseroles.

Full width handles arrived in the 1950s, available into the '60s and maybe the '70s, changing form in the 1980's.

Processing Blankets, Once in Hand -

All Blankets are washed in Wool-Safe Laundry Detergent; dried on warm heat, until dry; photographed from both sides; folded and bagged loosely, then placed into a storage cupboard having cedar shingles throughout the cupboard until sold.

There are videos and web-sites on line which explain how wool items can be re-stretched to their proper shape or size (or closer to) – as shrinkage happens when washed and dried.
