"U.S. COAST SURVEY A.D. BACHE Supt. PRELIMINARY CHART OF ST. AUGUSTINE HARBOR FLORIDA". The printed surface measures @ 20 3/4" x 21 1/2" with decent margins all around.
This chart contains important sailing directions, tide information and sea depths. These surveys were highly detailed and very accurate for the time.
In January of 1861 Confederate militiamen captured Fort Marion (now called Castillo de San Marcos) that served as an important port until the Union re-took the Fort in March of 1862. However, it also served as an important drop off point for blockade runners during the War. This chart, if obtained by the Confederacy may well have served as critical information for those blockade runners attempting to elude Union forces.
This is an authentic sea chart published around the time stated. I do not sell facsimiles or reproductions.
