Biggs
Blue Jasper is a rare picture jasper that
was discover around 1960 near Biggs Junction, Oregon. Biggs jasper was formed
in mud from volcanic ash. It has a high silica content which makes it a hard
stone.
Biggs jasper takes an excellent polish. It
is a rare stone now because in 1965 Route 97 was built on top of the deposit.
It can no longer be accessed. Most Biggs jasper ranges in layers in shades of
browns from tan to dark brown. High quality has shades of blue and
purple.
