Fine & Rare Victorian Silver ‘Castle Top' WINDSOR ABBEY Cake Basket, Birmingham, c1840.

This unusually large silver CASTLE TOP basket is significantly larger than other more typical castle top card cases and small baskets. Although there are no visible hallmarks it tests as solid silver and was most probably made by someone like Nathaniel Mills in Birmingham, although it never made it to be hallmarked. The centre of the basket is decorated with a raised depiction of Windsor Abbey and then surrounded by ornate scrolling foliage. The open work sinuous handle is engraved with a crest. A lovely rare and collectible piece of silver in excellent condition!
