Limoges D&Co Bernardaud 3 Section Tray Hand Painted Acorns Leaves Gold 1894-1900
DESCRIPTION: The tray was hand painted by a talented artist, A.E. Williams. The color palette used is yellow, green, brown w/gold. The rim of the tray is trimmed in bright, bold gold as are the section divisions and the handle. The acorns are nestled in a large number of green leaves. The rim is scalloped and embossed around the handle. The finish is a light, warm yellow wash which has a very glossy effect. See the photos.
CONDITION: While this decorative fan shaped tray is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. See the photos to judge for yourself.
DIMENSIONS: This fan shaped tray is 10" by 7 3/4" with a height of 1 3/4" to the top of the handle. The side of the tray has a height of 7/8".
HISTORY/MARKS: Remy Delinieres and P. Guery established a pottery in the 1860’s in Limoges, France. Delinieres became head of the company after 1879 and established a porcelain decorating shop in 1881 as part of the factory. In 1900, the company becomes Leon Bernardaud & Co. Leon & his father had worked for Delinieres and eventually purchased the company. Leon Bernardaud’s family continued his company which is still in operation. The D&Co (Delinieres & Company) mark on this is the green underglaze white ware mark #3 used 1894-1900 as cited in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition.
