Exquisite Decorative HALL CHINA 10 3/4" OPEN 2 Handled Pedestal VEGETABLE BOWL, FAIRFAX Pattern with GOLD Trim, circa 1950's, from East Liverpool, Ohio, USA manufactured for Sears & sold under the HARMONY HOUSE brand
HALL COLLECTOR FRIENDS: We have collected Hall Orange Poppy kitchenware & other Hall pieces for 30 years. In our searches for our collection when we find items that we do not collect but think others would like, we offer them here!
DESCRIPTION: This is an open vegetable bowl in the Fairfax pattern which has a garland of white flowers with brown leaves on the inside & outside of the bowl. It also has a center floral medallion in the bottom of the bowl. The centers of the white flowers are yellow. This pattern was produced for the Sears Stores and sold under the Harmony House brand. The background color of the bowl is Hall's white. This bowl has gold trim on the rim, pedestal and handles. Those handles are elegantly molded in a scroll shape.
CONDITION: The condition of this bowl is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. (We are very picky Hall collectors and find the condition of this item very acceptable to us--We just don't have the Fairfax pattern in our collection!)
DIMENSIONS: The open vegetable bowl has a diameter of 8" and a height of 3 1/4". The measurement handle to handle is 10 3/4".
HISTORY/MARKS: When the East Liverpool Potteries Company was dissolved in 1903, Robert Hall, one of the principals, formed Hall China Company. After his untimely death in 1904, his young son, Robert Taggert Hall took over and made it his mission to rediscover the long lost process from the Ming Dynasty of producing a non-lead based glazed china using a single fire process. He succeeded by 1911 creating the craze-proof finish for which Hall China became famous for over 100 years. Hall China remained in
the extended Hall family until they were sold to Homer Laughlin China
Company across the river in Newell, West Virginia, the manufacturer of
Fiesta. Hall China is not in production today as their operating kilns
have been moved to Newell and most of the original facility on Anna
Avenue is being demolished. The mark on the bottom of the bowl states Manufactured by The Hall China Company & gives the patent numbers. Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer show this pattern in their book, Collector's Encyclopedia of Hall China, 3rd edition. Production for this pattern was limited to 1950's and was used on a limited number of pieces.
