Elegant Decorative Set of 2 CANDLE STICK HOLDERS 7 1/8" Tall from PL (La Porcelain Limousine), Limoges, France, PINK WILD ROSES w/ GREEN Leaves, circa 1905-late 1930's
DESCRIPTION: This beautiful set of 2 tall candle stick holders has an intricate garland of pink wild roses encircling the square base. The background washes vary from yellow to pink to blue. There are even greyish blue ghost leaves to give depth to the design. The tops of the candle sticks are painted gold.
CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips,
scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be
absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. There is minor gold wear to the top of one of the candlesticks. Look in photo #7 to
see this.
DIMENSIONS: The each candle stick has a top square of 2" with a base square of 4 1/8". The height is 7 1/8". The hole for the candle depth 7/8” and the candle diameter is 7 /8”.
HISTORY/MARKS: Martial Redon worked with Gibus from the mid-1850’s to 1881. Then he took over the company in 1882 calling it Martial Redon Limoges while continuing to manufacture white ware. Martial Redon died in 1890, but the company and its marks were continued by his son, J. Redon, until 1896. By 1906, new owners changed the pottery name to La Porcelaine Limousine and also changed the white ware mark used to reflect this while continuing to use the M. Redon red decorating mark. They continued in business until the late 1930’s. The green mark on the bottom of this piece is cited in Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain as mark #1 used from 1905-late 1930's.
