Memory flaps need to be occasionally replaced due to normal wear and tear. The hole that keeps the flap in place is subjected to impact forces. When the hole wears out too much, you may encounter bottles with incorrect counts. One of the reasons for miscounted bottles is the memory flap hitting a product with high speed on its reverse stroke. The impact on the product can be so large that you may even notice that occasionally a product shoots out from the top of the channel.
