Military Medal ,1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal awarded to 305260 and 7653 Corporal John Cowie 8th Battalion Highland Light Infantry.

John Cowie was from Lanark in Scotland he enlisted in the Highland Light Infantry on the 17th of August 1914. 

He became part of the 157th Brigade , 52nd Division. He saw action in Gallipoli via Egypt entering the Dardanelles area on the 2nd of July 1915. Returning via Mudros Greece on the 9th January 1916 and from there to Egypt on the 3rd of February 1916.

He was deployed to Palestine 1917-18 and finally Flanders and France in April 1918  

He was awarded the Military Medal whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion HLI gazetted in 1919

He was discharged on the 24th of December 1918 as a result of wounds aged 26.
