Synopsis

The book is based on the 1940 animated film Fantasia, produced by Walt Disney and released by Walt Disney Productions. The third feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film consists of eight animated segments set to pieces
of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski, seven of which are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Music critic and composer Deems Taylor introduces each segment in live-action interstitial scenes. Disney had wanted Fantasia to be an ongoing project, with a new edition being released every few years. His plan was to substitute one of the original segments with a new one as it was complete, so the viewer would always see a new version of the film. However, the film's disappointing initial box office performance and the advent of World War II brought an end to these plans. The film has since become a classic and was selected in 1990 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
