This large beautiful platter was given as a wedding gift to the parents of a very close friend, so we know indeed that it is from 1957 and has been in the same family. The original box is labeled "Golden Glassware" but this is NOT the glassware company based in Guangzhou, China, which has been in existence since 1993. There are no markings on the platter or the box saying where this item was made.

The gilding on the platter is highly reflective, which accounts for why different sections of the platter appear to be

We are not sure of the provenance of all the motifs depicted on the platter; ostensibly they convey the values of the French Republic (not sure which one).

The 4 identical scalloped and rounded symbols are from a 19th century French gold coin, depicting a "winged genius" writing the constitution on top of a pillar, with "le coq gaulois” (Gallic Rooster, national bird of France) to the right. The triangles depict a castle, a soldier, a hand holding a sword, and the Champs Élysées arch. In the center is a coat of arms depicting what might be a hooded falcon. This platter seems to be commemorative; maybe potential buyers will have more knowledge of what this combination of symbols might represent.

The original box and the brown paper wrapping inside are falling apart (especially the latter) but we will include it for the sake of originality! This platter will be further packed safely and carefully.

The platter in these photos is the actual platter for sale from this listing.
