Japanese Hanging Scroll Vtg Looking At The Sky Color Mountain Kakejiku SC821

Description

Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) represents a character looking at the sky. The character is wearing traditional clothing and is carrying a squared woven basket. The scene seems to take place in the mountains, with some details of a tree. This piece is signed by an artist Kohshi and a red seal.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
