I made this jar and lid on the potters wheel. Then used bamboo root and hemp cord for the lid handle. Pepper tree leaves were dipped in a copper carbonate and water mixture and the leaves were laid on the jar for the leaf design. It's been Raku fired to about 1880 degrees. Cracking in the glaze is a characteristic of the Raku firing process and is usually desirable. Lots of textures on this piece and some nice copper glaze coloring. The inside is unglazed. It's 12" tall. It weighs a little over 2 3/4 lbs. The cracks on the lid of the jar are from thermal shock during the Raku reduction process and have been filled with epoxy for strength. There is no lead in the glazes but then Raku pots are not suitable for food or beverages anyway. I also make functional teapots, smoking pipes, mugs, bowls, wall pockets and other functional ware that are safe for food and beverages. Requests for custom orders are welcome.
