Description

    This stand is another model of the "Literary Machine" by John Carter, of London. He was a Victorian inventor and cabinet maker who produced a variety reading tables, chairs and sofas - many designs were specifically aimed at wounded soldiers. He gained a reputation for quality furniture, winning several medals and awards. His clients included Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales and emperors from Russia and Germany.

This stand is a wonderful example of creative invention, enabling the user 5 different ways to make individual adjustments, including the height, angle of the arm and reading platform (which also rotates). It could be used as a music stand, reading stand, a lectern or display stand.

    This stand is in very good condition for an antique item, with minor signs of wear considering its age and use. All parts are in good working order.

    This sale is for the antique mahogany, brass and cast iron music/reading stand only. (The chair and the other items are not included.) Please note that our photos form part of the item description and are a close indication of the actual colour.

      • Pick up:

        Due to a genuine shortage of space, all items must be picked up within 10 days of purchase, unless a prior arrangement has been made.
