Lot of (61) New Jersey Copper coin boxes from the Waldo Newcomer collection.

See our other items for more Newcomer collection boxes, 430 in total, that were made by fellow collector and box maker T. James Clarke in the early 1900s. These boxes housed the Waldo Newcomer (1867-1934) colonial coins prior to the collection being sold to Colonel E.H.R Green who apparently separated the coins from the boxes. The boxes then went to Eric Newman who ended up with most, but not all, of the coins that they originally contained. The Newcomer collection contained an incredible amount of significant colonial rarities and hopefully as many of these boxes as possible will be reunited with the important coins they once contained. The Newman Collection auctions by Heritage are a good first place to look for coins that belong with these boxes. We would be happy to assist bidders in determining possible matches.

The standard size of the boxes is 1.3" x 1.5" with some slightly larger. They are brown leatherette with a gilt border on the lids. Lined paper for description and cost pasted on back. Cotton liner inside with inventory number written behind. Typewritten description pasted below. These Clarke boxes are collector's items in their own right, well known among large cent collectors for some significant collections they were used for, notably the Dr. French cents.
