For sale is a matching pair of hand made Bookends, possibly end of day sewer tile folk art.  Made in Canton Ohio.

This pair is especially unique because the date, 1939, is written in the glaze.  Also a message, "From Betty Lou Burwell"  is written in the glaze along the edge.

The base of one bookend is impressed with a stamp "J. W. Moore Canton Ohio".  The other has "J. W. Moore inscribed by hand into the base.

Both bookends are of  a 1700's style frigate Española sailing ship with blue flags.

Intriguing art from the past.  Did J. W. Moore custom make these for a friend?

What an interesting conversation piece not to mention, collector's item, these bookends would be.

Each weighs about 2.75 lbs making them sturdy and useful bookends as well.

They are both in excellent condition.  One has a small chip in the base edge as shown in the photo.

The glaze looks great.
