IT WAS SOMETHING OF A NICHE CAR EVEN WHEN NEW WITH JUST 1209 OF THESE SERIES 2 CARS BUILT IT IS PROPELLED BY A 2.5 FLAT 4 BOXER ENGINE WHICH ALLOWED A LOWER BONNET LINE  AND A DISTINCT PROFILE AND THESE GOOD LOOKS TO BE ACHIEVED.
JEREMY CLARKSON ONCE SAID IT WAS ONE OF THE   PRETTIEST CARS EVER MADE, JAMES MAY SAID IT WAS  AN EXTREMELY RARE AND BEAUTIFUL COACH BUILT ITALIAN CAR.

 THIS CAR WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WHEN PURCHASED I STILL HAVE THE PICTURES AND WAS BEING PREPARED FOR PAINTING BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND HAD SOME SURFACE CORROSION HERE AND THERE AND A SUNROOF AT SOME POINT HAD BEEN ADDED BUT NOW IT HAS BEEN REVERSED AND IS BETTER FOR IT  WHEN THE PAINT WAS REMOVED IT LOOKED  TO HAVE HAD SOME PREVIOUS MINOR BUT WELL EXECUTED  REPAIRS AROUND THE LOWER REAR SCREEN PANEL,  N/S/R LOWER QTR WING ON TO SILL,   A SMALL AREA NEAR THE REAR FOG LIGHT AND BOTH FRONT WING LOWER EDGES WHERE THEY BOLT TO THE SILL BUT ALL WERE LEFT AS THEY NEEDED NO FURTHER WORK AND WERE STILL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION,  IN MY OWNERSHIP THE BODY WORK WAS TAKEN BACK  TO BARE METAL IN MOST PLACES I REPLACED THE O/S DOOR WITH A PERFECT USED ONE AND THE N/S HAD A SMALL SECTION WELDED INTO THE LOWER SKIN BY A LOCAL BODYSHOP ALL GLASS AND TRIM WAS REMOVED FOR THE REPAINT, AND THIS WAS COMPLETED IN 2020 AND 4 YEARS ON  IT  STILL IN SUPERB CONDITION.      A BRAND NEW FRONT SCREEN WAS MANUFACTURED BY PILKINGTON CLASSIC GLASS AND FITTED AND ALL OTHER TRIM AND QTR GLASSES REFITTED ALONG WITH 2 NEW DOOR SEALS I HAVE SINCE HAD A SMALL BLOW IN TO THE O/S/R QTR PANEL NEAR THE REAR LIGHT WHEN A PLASTIC GARDEN BENCH FELL AGAINST IT.

THIS IS IN A VERY GOOD USED CONDITION I CALL IT PATINA AND THAT IS HOW I LIKE IT THE REAR WINDOW BLINDS ARE PRESENT AND CORRCT AND WORK SEE VIDEO, IT STILL RETAINS THE ORIGINAL L CLOTH DESIGN  ON THE SEATS WHICH IS A SPECIAL TOUCH THAT ONLY SERIES 2 CARS HAD. THE DRIVERS SEAT  MATERIAL COVER IS SHOWING WEAR BUT THE CLUB HAVE HAD THESE REMANUFACTURED, THE HEADLINER IS ORIGINAL  WITH MINOR NIKS BUT IS  VERY PRESENTABLE   I WOULD ONLY HAVE  CONSIDERED DOING   THESE IF I WAS GOING TO SHOW THE CAR AT BIG EVENTS, THE CARPETS ARE VERY GOOD NO HOLES OR RIPS DOOR CARDS THE SAME,   BOTH FRONT SEAT BACKS LOCK AND UNLOCK WHEN DOORS ARE OPENED AND CLOSED AS BOTH HAD NEW CABLES FITTED   PLEASE SEE THE VIDEO.
 
MECHANICS, THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED STRIPPED AND REBUILT IN 1998/9 MILEAGE AT THAT TIME WAS AROUND 52000 AND  IT IS ONLY ON 62400 NOW THE REBUILD CONSISTED OF A COMPLETE ENGINE STRIP DOWN A NEW CYLINDER HEAD WAS FITTED ALONG WITH A SET OF VALVE GUIDES WITH A TINY GROOVE ADDED TO AID LUBRICATION THE OTHER HEAD WAS SKIMMED AND CLEANED A NEW SET OF VALVES WERE ALSO  FITTED
,BOTH CAMSHAFTS AND ROCKERS WERE SENT TO REECE OF HUNTINGDON FOR CHECKING AND REBUILDING /REPROFILING  AND A PARCOLUBERISED   MANGANESE-PHOSPHATE COATING ALSO ADDED TO ALL WORKING SURFACES,  REECE ARE CAM EXPERTS WHO CARRIED OUT WORK FOR COSWORTH AND LANCIA AND OTHER RACE TEAMS THE REST OF THE ENGINE WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION COMMENSURATE WITH AN ENGINE REGULARLY SERVICED ALL NEW SEALS AND GASKETS REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER £1000 RECEIPTS PICTURES AND REPORT ARE STILL WITH THE CAR TO CONFIRM THIS. IN MY OWNERSHIP I HAVE SINCE HAS TO REPLACED BOTH CYLINDER HEADS DUE TO CRACKING   BOTH CAMSHAFT BELTS,   REPLACED IDLER PULLEYS WITH NEW ITEMS DUE TO AGE ONLY,  AND ALL ABOVE HEAD  PARTS MENTIONED WERE TRANSFERRED OVER TO NEW HEADS WHEN CHANGED.
ALSO IN MY OWNERSHIP I HAVE HAD   ALL 4 BRAKE CALIPERS REBUILT WITH NEW SEALS, A NEW REAR BRAKE FLEXI HOSE ALL 4 FRONT HOSES REPLACED WITH BRAIDED ITEMS BRAKE PADS FRONT AND REAR, AND A NEW HANDBRAKE CABLE FROM ITALY.
THE CAR HAS NOW BEEN  FITTED WITH A STAINLESS EXHAUST REAR AND CENTER AND GIVES IT A NICE RASPY NOTE. PLEASE SEE UNDERSIDE VIDEO ON YOUTUBE.
THE GEARBOX WAS SLUGGISH AS   IT HAD STOOD UNUSED FOR MANY YEARS AND DID NOT LIKE CHANGING UP  SO I FITTED A LOW MILEAGE BOX THAT CAME WITH THE CAR AND IT DID THE TRICK IT NOW PERFORMS AS IT SHOULD.
THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAS BEEN RELOCATED  TO THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE AND DRIVEN DIRECT FROM THE CRANKSHAFT FOR PIECE OF MIND, ALL UNDER BONNET FUEL LINE REPLACED WITH MODERN HOSE AND THE CORRECT FERRULES USED.I HAVE REMOVED THE THERMOSTAT FROM THE UNDERSIDE AND FITTED A MODERN ONE IN THE TOP HOSE AS THIS WORKS BETTER  AND A NEW THERMO TIME SWITCH ALSO FITTED TO THE RADIATOR

DRIVING THE CAR IS A TREAT YOU SIT LOW DOWN IN A COMFORTABLE POSITION AND THE ENGINE   PULLS WELL ITS NO SPORTS CAR BUT MORE OF A CRUISER BUT WHEN YOU DO KICK DOWN  IT WILL MOVE FORWARD VERY SWIFTLY,    THE ENGINE GETS BETTER THE MORE YOU REV IT BUT I PREFER TO DRIVE IT AS A 
CRUISER, POWER STEERING IS LIGHT AND RIDE IS SOFT NOT LIKE A FIRM MODERN CAR, BRAKES WORK WELL AND THE AUTOMATIC GEARBOX SHIFTS UP THE 4 FORWARD GEARS AS AND WHEN REQUIRED.

THE CAR HAS A CURRENT MOT UNTIL OCTOBER 2024 AND IT PASSED WITH NO ADVISORIES AND HAS DRIVEN LESS THAN 20 MILES SINCE WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE SALE ALONG WITH A CHANGE IN CIRCUMSTANCES I AM JUST NOT GOING TO GET THE TIME TO ENJOY IT ANYMORE AND AS WE ALL KNOW OLD CARS NEED TO BE USED I HAVE A FOLDER OF RECEIPTS WHICH LOOKS LIKE A SMALL FORTUNE SPENT OVER THE YEARS AND PAPERWORK SOME OLD MOT CERTS AND ORIGINAL SERVICE BOOK BUT NOT MANY STAMPS AND AROUND 200 PICTURES OF WORK DONE.
