Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This is a vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) representing a bird sitting on a tree branch covered by snow. This kakejiku is definitively a winter piece. It is almost monochrome yet some color details give it realism and vividness. This piece is signed by an artist Hyakkoh and a red seal. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
