Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This is a vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) representing cranes on a pine tree. Some cranes are flying away from the pine tree. The crane is a symbol of luck and longevity in Japan. This piece is signed with red seals. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
