Former minor league baseball player Morris Buttermaker (W Matthau) is now a lazy, beer swilling swimming pool cleaner who takes a job to coach the Bears, a bunch of disheveled Little League (childrens league) misfits who have virtually no baseball talent. Realizing his dilemma, Coach Buttermaker brings aboard girl pitching ace Amanda Whurlizer (T O Neal) and a motorcycle punk who happens to be the best baseball player around. Now brimming with confidence, the Bears look to sweep into the championship game.
