Vintage restored Altec Lansing 890C version of the Bolero speakers.  You will receive 2 speakers together (PAIR of speakers).

Please look carefully at the photos - I tried to show all the elements of the restoration.

When I first got these locally, they were in rough shape.  Cabinets were scratched up pretty bad, one woofer did not work, the correct horns had been replaced with Radio Shack horns, and the grills and badges were missing.  It took a while, but here is what was completed in the restoration:

Cabinets:  I removed all components and outsourced a complete new veneer job to a local craftsman.  Both cabinets had a full four side new veneer work done, then stained and treated to match the front trim.
I reinforced the rear of the cabinet on four sides to strengthen the rear then added new damping material to the back for improved bass response.
I sourced and restored two correct grills and badges for the front.
Each speaker (woofer, passive and horn) had sealing gasket (foam) material applied to improve the seal of the cabinet.
Fiberglass batting added to the cabinet before install of the speakers.
A couple of the T-nuts were replaced as well.

Crossover:  I replaced all crossover capacitors with Dayton Audio caps and cleaned the switches and connectors with De-Oxit.

Speakers:  I sourced, tested and replaced both horns with model correct 21517-3 horns.
I replaced the bad woofer with a replacement 406-8Y woofer from a parted out 890C pair (also where the horns came from).
I treated the surrounds of all four woofer/passive cloth surrounds with two layers of cloth treatment (Vintage AR).

Testing:  I burned these in for about 40 hours of listening to make sure everything was right, and to get some time on the new capacitors.

Impression:  The star of the show is the 10" 406-8Y woofers.  In this model they cross over at 2000Hz which really works well for them.  The bass is strong, and I measured it (signal generator) below 40Hz, actually to 34 Hz before it drastically fell off.  Musically, any vintage guitar or vocal sounds wonderful on these speakers.  The transition to the horns is transparent.

I think the damping and reinforcement in the back really helped tighten up the bass.  Not that they were build poorly in the factory but this really helped strengthen the cabinet and smooth the bass (kudos to Don the craftsman for that tip!!).  I also added the same foam around the crossovers to improve the air tight requirement of a passive radiator style cabinet. (The old gaskets were toast).

Shipping:  I wrap each speaker in protective plastic, then bubble and foam to build a safety cocoon around each speaker.  These will ship in individual boxes, so shipping costs are high.  It usually takes me a few hours to prepare something this important for shipment.  I try to get everything shipped in two days or less.

Update:  Changed to free shipping  - I'll cover the cost of shipping.  I will refund $100 for local pickup.

International is ok, using Ebay's program only.  My shipping costs will get them to the Ebay hub, and you will pay Ebay directly for the remainder of the international journey.
