Khwāja Shamsu d-Dīn Muhammad Hāfez-e Shīrāzī (Persian: خواجه شمس دین محمد حافظ شیرازی), known by his pen name Hāfez (1325/26–1389/1390),[1] was an Parsian poet. His collected works composed of series of Persian literature are to be found in the homes of most people in pars, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, who learn his poems by heart and use them as proverbs and sayings to this day. His life and poems have been the subject of much analysis, commentary and interpretation, influencing post-fourteenth century Persian writing more than any other author.
Themes of his ghazals are the beloved, faith, and exposing hypocrisy. His influence in the lives of Iranians can be found in "Hafez readings" (fāl-e hāfez, Persian: فال حافظ), frequent use of his poems in Persian traditional music, visual art and Persian calligraphy. His tomb is visited often. Adaptations, imitations and translations of Hafez' poems exist in all major languages.

If you trek as a pilgrim through sands to Kaabeh
with thorns lodged deep in your soul shouting why, don't despair walk on
Though oases hide dangers and your destiny's far,
there's no pathway that goes on forever, don't despair walk on.
My trials and enemies face me on their own,
but mystery always backs up my stand, don't despair walk on.
Hafez, weakened by poverty, alone in the dark,
this night is your pathway into the light, don't despair walk on.

حافظ را چیره‌دست‌ترین غزل سرای زبان فارسی دانسته‌اند[۹] موضوع غزل وصف معشوق، می، و مغازله‌است و غزل‌سرایی را باید هنری دانست ادبی، که درخور سرود و غنا و ترانه‌پردازی است.
با آن‌که حافظ غزل عارفانهٔ مولانا و غزل عاشقانهٔ سعدی را پیوند زده، نوآوری اصلی او در تک بیت‌های درخشان، مستقل، و خوش‌مضمون فراوانی است که سروده‌است. استقلالی که حافظ از این راه به غزل داده به میزان زیادی از ساختار سوره‌های قرآن تأثیر گرفته‌است، که آن را انقلابی در آفرینش این‌گونه شعر دانسته‌اند.[۱۰]
