DESCRIPTION: The decorative plate was manufactured and hand painted in the Elite Works Studio by a talented artist, Lucien. The designer of the decoration was most talented. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The gold trim on the embossed rim is very rich looking and has a most unusual dark green scrollwork design actually on the gold. This is most unique. The garland is composed of pink poppies with their green leaves and buds. The leaves are outlined in gold and have gold veining. The pink poppies have raised white accenting with black centers and stamens making them stand out.
CONDITION: While this decorative cabinet plate is classified as used, its condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. Overall, the gold trim is solid & glossy. See the photos.
DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 8" and a height of 1".
HISTORY/MARKS: In the 1860’s, Bawo & Dotter was established in New York City for the purpose of importing china, especially Limoges porcelain. The firm established its own decorating studio in Limoges, France in the early 1870’s named The Elite Works. Bawo & Dotter began manufacturing its own china in 1896 in Limoges. The green mark on this plate is the underglaze white ware mark #5 (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Mary Frank Gaston) which was used after 1900. In addition, an overglaze decorating red mark is from Elite Works and was used from 1900-1914. This makes the time period for this plate 1900-1914.
