This amazing Naga Silara kris, keris dates from the Yogyakarta Mataram XXI (21st century). This keris is proof that modern day kerisses can surpass many antique kerisses in relation to forging mastership. The wilah of this keris is forged to the rare Naga Silara dapur with 7 luk (waves).

 

At the base of the wilah a very detailed Naga Silara is forged in the place of the Gandhik. Its tail continues in the Ganja.

 

Furthermore, the base of the wilah is decorated with equally detailed Kinatah Kamarogan art, depicting fowers and floral patterns. Kamarogan means that the wilah is carved with ornamental decorations, both abstract and figurative, using carving techniques.

 

The gandik portion of this keris is forged in the shape of a dragon's head, with the dragon's tail extending along the ganja. Superior kerisses are often forged with dragon stylization, as this creature is considered a protector and provides security for its owner from calamities. It is believed that a Naga Silara keris brings good luck and protects property and wealth and wards off evil elements that will afflict the owner and his family. Almost all wealthy people in Kotagede before 1945 owned this kind of keris. Keris Naga Salira is considered in Indonesian cultural as synonymous with the teachings of spiritualism, teachings of leadership and representation of power and government.

 

Beside the rare dapur the wilah is forged with pamor Kelengan. A Kelengan keris absorbs negative energy and above all gives protection against all negative influences be it persons, spirits, diseases or disasters. They also stand for destruction of the existing so that something new can arise from it. The top of the keris is adorned with a Yogyakarta Nunggak-semi hilt, set on a beautiful copper selut with deeply chased patterns.
