The “Midget” was made by “Apsco” the Automatic Pencil Sharpener Co., Rockford, Illinois. This is one of their first models, patented and produced from 1918 thru 1940 as seen in the 1918 U.S. patent drawing photo in the gallery. A 1920 ad states that the twin milling cutters are made of the finest tool steel and will last for years. The “Midget” shown, sharpens very well and all the parts are present including the translucent plastic cage that has two small cracks. The sharpener is attached to a solid oak-wood base, but it can be removed with no damage to the sharpener. The “Midget” is 3½” tall and the oak base is 7” long. The original patent drawing from 1918, No.1,283,584 is included with this sharpener, see photo. Also included is a copy of the 1922 Apsco advertisement “There’s Inspiration in a Sharp Pencil!
