For sale is a beautiful vintage Zenith "Surf" El Primero, reference 01.0210.415, with a cal. 3019 PHC. These are informally called by collectors and enthusiasts as "Surf" due to the writing on the case back. A throwback to the early 1970s, where cushion cases where the trend and people preferred thicker watches. Zenith took the fantastically thin El Primero movement and put it in a case that leaves way too much breathing room, just to appeal to the eras aesthetics. It's a quirky watch, but appealing and iconic at the same time. It is said that only 4.000 copies of these were produced, which makes it a relatively rare model. This is by far the cheapest way to get a legendary El Primero, in a watch that looks great and performs even better.

Comes with a brand new handmade vachetta leather strap sized at 130/80mm. It should fit wrists of 20+ cm in circumference.

Condition
The dial is in very good condition. To the naked eye there's hardly any imperfections even under direct sunlight. On really close-up photos or under a 12x loupe, you start noticing tiny spots and imperfection from age. The "T - Swiss Made - T" inscription at the bottom of the dial is there, but it's very hard to photograph as it's obscured by the crystal.

Lume in the dial is present in the form of small dots "behind" the indices and is intact. Hands are beautiful with only slight marks upon close-up that are invisible to the naked eye and the lume is intact. Being tritium on a 50 years old watch, lume holds barely any charge. It can be charged to moderately bright with a UV light, but it loses the charges within a few seconds.

The case is all around in very good shape, with typical scratches and little marks from use. The most visible little ding is on the bottom side under the 7 o'clock index, shown in the 5th photo. Case retains its original circular brushing, so I believe it hasn't been polished or at a maximum, lightly so. Case back has some scratches from normal use and a couple of marks from people trying to open it up. The "Surf Stainless Steel" marking has faded, especially the "Surf" part. I would imagine the case back to have been polished at a certain point in the watch's life.

Movement looks pretty decent for a 50+ years old watch. It has light marks and discoloring both from age and previous services. It keeps decent time, winds correctly, date is set both automatically and via the crown, and chronograph functions all work. On a timegrapher mobile app, with their limited accuracy, it shows -18 s/d with 0.2ms beat error on dial up, and -22 s/d with 0.3ms beat error dial up. While these are not optimal values, they're still really good for a vintage watch that hasn't been serviced.

Additionally, please check the photos carefully and don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

Movement Service
The movement's service history is unknown and I haven't personally sent it for a service. Although it runs well, keep in mind you're buying a 50 years old watch. If you care for it to function properly in the future, a service will be needed.

Waterproof
The watch is rated at 30m (3 ATM), which means at most you can wash your hands or use it under rain. In no circumstances should it be used under the shower or for swimming. The watch should be tested by a watchmaker and any gaskets replaced to make sure it's water resistance is in spec.

Returns
Returns are not accepted unless the watch is grossly misrepresented. Please contact me before buying if you have questions.

Shipping
The watch will be shipped within 3 working days via DHL. You will be provided a tracking number as soon as shipment is handled. I will not be liable for any customs delays or fees on international orders. Please contact me if you have any questions about shipping.
