This piece of Spanish history is a treasure for any coin collector. Dating back 400+ years to 1622, this 8 Maravedis copper cobb from Phillip III’s reign is an incredible artifact of the Spanish colonial era. Many refer to coins from this period as pirate era coinage due to the frequency at the time of piracy on the high seas. It was an interesting time in world history, and this coin is a testament to that period. A must have coin type for any numismatist!

The numerals “162” are clearly visible on this coin, but the last “2” to complete the date is a little bit more obscure. The base line of that “2” is visible, but not the rest. None the less, that hard line differentiates it, making it a sure determination of date (1622).
