This 1978 Mike Bossy New York Islanders Rookie Topps NHL Record Breaker Card #1 is the exact item you will receive and has been certified Authentic by REM Fine Collectibles.

Michael “Mike” Bossy (January 22, 1957-) scored 51 goals or more for 13 consecutive seasons (1973-1986) in both the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the National Hockey League, 843 total goals during that span.

After starring for the Laval National of the QMJHL, scoring 309 goals in four seasons (1972-1976), he joined the New York Islanders where he played his entire NHL career (1977-1987). In his first season in New York, Bossy crushed the rookie scoring record tallying 53 goals and adding 38 assists as he marched to the Calder Trophy honoring the NHL’s top rookie.

Originally considered somewhat of a soft player, Mike was overlooked by most teams until the Islanders selected him as the 15th overall pick of the 1977 NHL Entry Draft. Bossy played right wing on the Isles’ top line of center Bryan Trottier and left wing Clark Gillies, future Hall of Famers. Mike led the NHL in his sophomore season with 69 goals, then again in his fourth season with 68.

The 1980-81 season marked a milestone for Bossy, as he achieved his goal of becoming only the second player in NHL history to score 50 goals in 50 games, tying the legendary Maurice “The Rocket” Richard.

Though often overlooked in the record books during his era, with the emergence of Wayne Gretzky and Guy Lafleur, the opposition hardly overlooked Bossy as he continued to build his reputation as one of the greatest snipers in NHL history.

The Islanders became a modern-day dynasty as they road Mike’s scoring touch to four consecutive Stanley Cup Championships (1980-1983).

Mike played in seven NHL All-Star Games, was named to five NHL All-Star First Teams, won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1982 as the playoff MVP, and the won three Lady Byng Memorial Trophies (1983, 1984, 1986) honoring the league’s most gentlemanly player.

Mike Bossy finished his NHL career with 573 goals and 553 assists in 752 games and sported a plus/minus rating of 381 during those ten seasons. Mike Bossy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.
