Exquisite Decorative ROSINA Footed CUP & SAUCER, Pattern #4865 Water Lily Scrollwork w/Flower Sprays w/GOLD, from Longton, Staffordshire, England, circa 1948-1952
DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has colors that are bright and vivid. This is hand painted on a blank of high white bone china with gold trim on the edges and a wide gold band on the foot. The cup and saucer have the most interesting water lily scrollwork design around the rim of the saucer and the top, outside of the cup. The hand painted flowers are very eye-catching and vary from flower to flower.
CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks.
DIMENSIONS: The cup has a diameter of 3 1/2" with a height of 2 7/16" while it is 2 1/2" to the top of the handle. The deep saucer has a diameter of 5 7/16" and a height of 15/16".
HISTORY/MARKS: In 1941, Oswald Sufflebottom purchased the Queen’s Pottery on Sutherland Road in Longton, Staffordshire, UK which has a history dating back to 1887 as George Warrilow and Sons, Ltd. He operated the pottery as Rosina China Co., Ltd until it merged in 1988 with Crownford Holdings, Ltd. when the Rosina trademarks were dropped. The mark on this piece is mark #3379 used 1948-1952 as cited in Geoffrey A. Godden’s Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks.
