Let's Play
I have a few things to show you.
Archive pictures are used to illustrate and demonstrate the features of this type of vintage Singer ZigZag Attachment using my Singer Featherweight 221.

This adjustable edge guide is what sets this vintage Singer ZigZag Attachment apart from others.

Using this versatile accessory, you will be able to join fabrics, apply trims such as ribbon, rickrack, lace and stitch pretty pin tucks.

Pretty Pin Tucks!
Who needs a twin needle to make pin tucks? Not you!
Using the versatile edge guide makes sewing dainty crisp pin tucks easy!

Who says you cannot sew zigzag pin tucks?
If you prefer straight stitch pin tucks, disengage the ratchet
by lifting the pawl.

Add a little lace?
No problem!

~~~~~~~~
Cording!
I have a lot of fun applying self made or purchased bias binding using the zigzag stitch.
You can run a pretty satin cord, baby rick rack, yarn, soutache or tiny ribbon through the cording guide in the foot to embellish your work.
You can adjust the width of the ZigZag Stitch from Narrow to Wide  here...
...and you can convert to a straight stitch instantly.
See the pawl sitting in the notch of the ratchet wheel in the picture below on the left? With your sewing machine stopped, you can disengage the ZigZag stitch instantly by gently flipping the little lever back.
Instantly, your Singer ZigZag Attachment is ready for straight stitching.
This was fun!
Sculpted Lace Hems.
This is so easy even if you are bad at it, it can look good! :)
Using the zigzag stitch to add floral lace to the hem of lingerie. Follow the outer edge of the lace using a matching thread (I'm using blue thread so you can see it better).
Carefully cut the hem close to the stitching (red arrow).
Turn your work to the right side and voila!
A romantic lace hem for a slip, negligee or camisole!
By the way, did you know…?
ZigZag Attachments have a Floating Foot attached to the forked foot of the attachment.
It allows the zigzag attachment to “float” over thick and thin fabrics, seams, edges and other raised areas more easily while your sewing machine is stitching.
And it REALLY is not meant to be removed! Sometimes the teeny spring clamps which hold the floating foot are bent upwards or broken (red arrows).
If the spring clamps are not sitting snugly against the nubs in the fork holding the floating foot securely, there is a lot of wobble in the floating foot. The attachment can crab-stitch off to one side or in circles no matter how hard you try to guide the fabric.
For the zigzag attachment foot to work correctly, the spring clamps need to be intact on each side and sit close to  the nubs in the fork to secure the floating foot  (green arrows).
