The November 29, 1775 Continental issue was redeemable for Spanish milled dollars. This $5 note features an emblem of a hand gathering food and bleeding due to thorn pricks. This emblem is encircled by the latin motto “SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE” (Either survive or give up). The reverse features nature print of betony and sage leaves. Affordable problem free example. Very nice piece for the price. Previously a part of the extensive Dr. O’Shaughnessy Continental Collection.
