Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic older general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice during the 1960's. This is the late 3rd generation 630 that has the polished chrome housing with great mid century looks. Tested and cleaned this 630 has a perfect working dynamic element and is currently set at High Z. It comes with the longer cable shown as well as the original plastic case.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old E.V catalog I have showing it's basic specs.

The mic housing / head is reminiscent of the jet engines being used by several American and Soviet fight planes of the 1940's and 50's.

The 630 was originally introduced in the early 1950's and was just slightly changed design wise over it's 20 + years. This example was the last design of the 630 run. What makes this 3rd gen slightly more desirable is the fact that it had the 4 pin connection which allowed the user to have either a low Z setting or high Z setting depending on your needs.

You'll see the mic comes with the longer 4 pin cable and the cable to opertate the mic. It's appx 15 feet long. Soft, pliable and in perfect condition. It comes with the standard male 1/4 inch end connector that works with most audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers.

The 630 makes an excellent harp mic in the high Z setting giving you a dirtier tone that is free of any bass. These mics are easy to cup in the hands as well and have really strong output. It has a very "rockabilly" tone that some musician like all these years later for replicating that classic era of rock and roll or blues.

This older 630 is a very pretty example but does have some very lite wear on the very front of the grill in the form of small pitting. Otherwise it's almost perfect and it's a solid example. The 630 works perfectly. The 50 + year old microphone has zero scratches, scuff marks, dents, dings or fractures. The threads for the cable and stand are perfect with zero stripping. The E.V label looks excellent and completely legible. Overall this piece is a very easy 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

The joint mechanism works fine with plenty of tension. The on / off switch works great as well.

The original black plastic E.V case is included and a great place to store the mic while not in actual use or for transporting. The case looks great and I added new foam padding to keep the contents safe and snug. The case has a practical carrying handle and the latch mechanism keep the lid firmly closed.

A great accessory and a great package deal.
