Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a floral composition with three types of flowers. One flower is pink, possibly a pink peony, and is the central focus of the piece. The two other flowers are white (possibly plum flowers) and yellow (possibly chrysanthemum). This piece is signed by an artist Kosui and a red seal. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
