Take a close look at this 1979 Chevrolet C10 pickup. This California square body exhibits a patina look that I’m sure you’ve seen before. But look further and you’ll see the results of an extensive frame-off restoration with only 3 miles since completion. The result offers about as much fun as you can have with a truck.

This C10 spent its entire life with one family in central California. Obviously this kept it free of any rust problems; with the exception of the hood, all sheetmetal is original and still wears its factory Shamrock Green paint. Replacement parts include a new grille insert, headlights, taillights, and side markers along with a beautiful wooden bed. There is also a set of new 18” American Racing wheels with Toyo 245/45R18 tires. Still, this pickup retains that patina look so many try to duplicate with oxidized paint, rub marks, scratches, chips, and other imperfections accumulated over 45 years of service. But beyond the distressed look is a completely restored truck with entirely new mechanicals and many performance parts.

The body was removed from the frame which was stripped down and powdercoated black. The suspension was completely redone with Wilwood 2.5” drop spindles, QA1 tubular control arms, QA1 Front and Rear Shocks, and dropped springs. The brakes were redone using Wilwood discs all around with 6-piston calipers in front. A new power booster, master cylinder, proportioning valve, and hard/soft lines were also installed. All steering components were replaced and the box was upgraded to a modern Borgeson power unit.

Continuing the theme, the drivetrain is completely new starting with the 350ci crate engine. Highlights include a Speedmaster aluminum intake, Edelbrock AVS2 carburetor with electric choke, and a new HEI distributor. There is also a Griffin aluminum radiator and a dual exhaust with Hooker manifolds and Flowmaster FlowFX mufflers. Additional new equipment includes motor mounts, fuel tank, and fuel lines. Behind the motor is a rebuilt TH350 automatic transmission that feeds a Currie 9” rear end with 3.25 gears.

The interior also received its share of new parts starting with the leather covered bench seat. The carpet, headliner, door panels, dash pad, pillar trim, and seat belts were also replaced. A tilt column was installed along with a new steering wheel and gauge cluster. Additional upgrades include a Vintage Air heater, updated wiper module, and a modern digital radio. Other new parts include the glove box liner, window regulators, and door / window handles and seals.

This remarkable C10 certainly presents well on paper. It has the look so many people strive for and more new parts than can possibly be listed here. But more importantly, it all comes together in a truck you can truly enjoy. If you can’t have fun in this one then you’re not trying!
