Vintage Parrot Band Sterling Silver Thimble Portugal * 1976 This tall silver thimble is Portuguese. Along the side seam it is stamped with the British sterling silver import hallmarks for Birmingham 1976. It has a wide band and the front is deeply embossed with a colorful parrot. Scrolling leaves and flowers go around the rest of the band. The top is stamped with the star seen on Portuguese silver thimbles. The sides have waffle style knurling. The condition is excellent, crisp and in round with no holes, dents or other damage The parrot has a little wear to the color, I think. It is about an American size 9 (15.7 mm diameter opening). Several Portuguese thimbles in this style are shown on p. 166 of the New International Edition of Thimbles Collector's Encyclopedia by John von Hoelle.
